What is it all about ?

Whenever you do a search in Google or Yahoo, you will see a list of sites which are all related to the keyword terms you entered in the search box.
Some of the pages listed will be relevant to your query, others irrelevant.

Thousands of people are currently competing against each other to be at the top of those search engine listings, also called Search Engine Results Pages (SERPs).

Why ?

You were not the only person in the world who entered that particular query (keyword) in the search box.
Depending on the nature of the keyword, there could be millions of people searching for the same keyword any given day.
If your query is commercial in nature, the competition becomes more fierce.
By competing for the top results in the results pages, website owners are vying for those millions of potential visitors.
Once you click on one of the listings, you are now a visitor to that website and if the topic is a commercial one, you are now a potential customer.

Selling to the visitor

The website you have clicked on will probably have content relating to your query as well as links to products which might interest you.
The product could be owned by the website owner, but it is also possible that the website owner does not own the product but has rights to advertise it on his site as an affiliate marketer.

The purchase

If you buy the product through the affiliate link or directly from the supplier, money has been made and the circle starts again.

How ?

Is it difficult to become part of this circle and start making money on the internet yourself ?

Not at all.
You don't even need to be very techno-literate to set up your own website.
